Bankruptcy Clinic

The Bankruptcy Clinic is a free service provided by the lawyers of the Oregon State Bar Debtor Creditor Seciton in partnership with Legal Aid Services of Oregon. The clinic is held once a month and consists of a class available to everyone, and attorney appointments which must be arranged in advance. (Clinic services are limited to Chapter 7 Bankruptcy only)

Schedule

The clinic is generally held on the third Tuesday of each month, except when this may conflict with holidays. Exact dates for the remainder of 2007 are:

  • October 16 (Downtown Portland)
  • November 20 (Gresham)
  • December 18 (Beaverton)

The Clinics begin at 6:00 p.m. and start with a bankruptcy class taught by a judge or experienced bankruptcy lawyer. Class are open to all residents of Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill Counties.

Following the class volunteer attorneys meet with clients on an appointment only basis. These appointments generally begin at 7:15 p.m.

Eligibility

There are no eligibility requirements for participation in the Bankruptcy Clinic class. However, appointments are available only to clients who live in Clackamas, Columbia, Multnomah, Washington, and Yamhill Counties, and who meet the Legal Aid income requirements. Those requirements will be explained by legal aid when you call to arrange for an appointment.

Appointments are made through Legal Aid. Call either 503.224.4086 in Multnomah County or 503.648.7163 in Washington County to discuss eligibility and request an appointment.

Bankruptcy Clinic Training

March 7, 2007 2:30-4:30. Standard Insurance Building, Lower Level Auditorium, Portland. A 2-hour CLE to train attorneys how to represent clients through the Bankruptcy Clinic sponsored by the OSB Debtor-Creditor Section and Legal Aid Services of Oregon. Speakers will review the impact of the Bankruptcy Abuse and Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 on clients served through the clinic.
